The sports media industry marked its annual celebration and recognition of excellence with a gala evening for the 2024 SJA British Sports Journalism Awards, sponsored by Canon.

The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge welcomed hundreds of guests and congratulated the award winners in a major event hosted by Jim White and Reshmin Chowdhury.
For the sixth year in a row, the coveted John Bromley Trophy for SJA Sportswriter of the Year went to a first-time recipient. The winner was The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who also retained his Football News Reporter category award.

For the second time in four years, the Ed Lacey Trophy for Canon SJA Photographer of the Year was awarded to David Davies of PA Media, who also took the Canon Portfolio and Specialist Portfolio prizes.
In the Broadcast section, the Presenter of the Year category was won by Kelly Cates (BBC Radio 5 Live and Sky Sports), while the BBC’s rugby union correspondent Chris Jones claimed his first success, in the Commentator category.
The Broadcast Journalist award was won by Amanda Davies (CNN), again a first-time winner.
The Sunday Times was named Newspaper of the Year, while in the Digital Publisher category, The Telegraph took the top prize.
The Sports Content Organisation award was won by The Athletic.
