The SJA British Sports Journalism Awards recognises the creme de la creme of sports journalism whether it be writing, photography or broadcast.
Sponsored by the National Lottery, and supported by Canon and European Professional Club Rugby, the awards are widely regarded as the Oscars of the sporting journalism industry.
The 2018 awards night will again be held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on Monday, February 25 2019, when the nation’s top professionals gather to honour the winners.
There are four categories which are judged slightly differently to the rest.
The John Bromley Sportswriter of the Year is chosen by a vote of national and regional sports editors. To be eligible for this award journalists must be shortlisted in one of the other competition categories.
The Canon Sports Photographer of the Year and winner of the Ed Lacey Trophy will be selected from the winners of the sports portfolio, specialist sports portfolio or football portfolio categories.
The Sports Newspaper of the Year is chosen by a panel of leading figures in sports journalism.
The Doug Gardner Award honours a member of the SJA who has made an outstanding contribution to sports journalism and the SJA. This trophy will be awarded at the discretion of the officers of the SJA.
