Canon extend sponsorship of British Sports Photographer of the Year Awards to 2021

The Sports Journalists’ Association is delighted to announce that Canon UK is continuing to support the British Sports Photographer of the Year Awards with their sponsorship of the key prizes in the annual competition for the next two years.

The Canon Sports Photographer of the Year will receive the Ed Lacey Trophy, widely recognised as the pinnacle prize in the sports photography industry and the longest running sports photography competition.  The second award is for the Canon Sports Portfolio, challenging the entrants to produce 10 photographs covering a range of sports across multiple events and display a variety of photographic disciplines.

Mary Fitzhenry, chair of the SJA’s awards committee, said; “We have worked together with Canon for the last two years and they have proven to be an ideal partner; a professional team, highly regarded by the photographers and a leading player in the industry.  I have been impressed with their support of young people breaking into the business and of course their popular loan and repair service at major events has been a lifeline for many photographers.”

The Sports Photographer of the Year Competition is part of the British Sports Journalism Awards alongside writing and broadcast categories.  The awards are judged by a panel of industry experts, chaired by  Matthew Fearn, Picture Editor of The Telegraph.

Entry forms and full details for all three sections will be available shortly with a deadline for entries in mid January.  The gala awards evening will take place at the Westminster Park Plaza Hotel on 24 February 2020.
