Indy’s head of sport, Mike Dunn, in shock exit

Mike Dunn, the head of sport at Independent Newspapers only since September, left their Derry Street offices today in a stunning development.

Independent logoDunn is the former sports editor of the News of the World and The Sun. He joined the Indy group in August, initially as head of the Alexander Lebedev-owned company’s digital offering, which encompassed the struggling London Live television channel as well as the i, Independent on Sunday and the Evening Standard.

By September, Dunn was in charge of the newspapers’ sports output. Soon after, a number of Dunn’s old colleagues began working for the titles, while big-name columnists who had previously appeared in the pages of News International titles, such as former England manager Terry Venables and boxing promoter Frank Warren, were signed up, their columns appearing across at least three of the titles.

Sportsjournalists.co.uk sought a comment from the office of Amol Rajan, the cricket-loving editor of The Independent, but at time of publication no one had returned our call.
