SJA appoints advertising sales agent

The Sports Journalists’ Association of Great Britain has appointed Charlie Bronks as its exclusive sales agent with immediate effect, as it works to raise more funds from its various media to provide ever more services for its members, the UK’s leading sports journalists.

Bronks is an experienced advertising, marketing and sponsorship saleswoman whose other clients include the RAC and Conde Nast Johansens. In the past, she has worked with the Duke of Edinburgh Award International Association. She is a former international rugby union player who was in England’s 1994 World Cup-winning side, and she was also a Great Britain junior international at rowing.

With the SJA, Bronks will be helping to sell advertising for its Yearbook, the invaluable directory for the sports marketing industry which includes details of the majority of the Association’s 700-plus influential members from newspapers, TV and radio broadcasters. The SJA Yearbook is published each December.

She will also be seeking advertisers for the SJA’s quarterly Bulletin, monthly email newsletters and its website, sportsjournalists.co.uk, which has become a principle destination for those seeking journalism news on the web, and which in the past year has attracted 6.4 million hits.

Bronks will be helping to market the Association’s events, including the prestigious SJA British Sports Awards, which will be staged for the 61st time on December 9, and the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards, as well as its regular sporting lunches and other events.

SJA Chairman Barry Newcombe, confirming the appointment, said, “Our Association is dependent on the generous sponsorship we already receive from UK Sport and Sky Bet. But we realise that we need to develop other sources of income, and we are confident in Charlie’s abilities, skills and contacts to make the most of our Yearbook and other opportunities.

“We welcome her in to the SJA family and know that her in-depth understanding of sport and our business will be a huge boon to the Association.”

Charlie Bronks said: “I am really excited about the chance to work with such a terrific organisation as the SJA. Obviously, times are tough in the economy at the moment, but with less than three years until London stages the 2012 Olympics, I am sure that there will be many businesses, sports federations and events who will be looking for ways to partner the SJA and who will want to be able to reach its influential and opinion-forming membership.”
