Stephen Donald calling the shots in the World Cup final

New Zealand World Cup winner and Bath rugby union star Stephen Donald is visiting the Laureus Urban Stars project in Bristol next Tuesday, April 10, to meet young people whose lives are being changed by the inner-city project.

Building upon the successful work of Laureus Urban Stars in London, Manchester and the West Midlands, Laureus Urban Stars is being delivered by Active Communities Network.

Stephen Donald, who kicked the winning points in the World Cup final, attended the Laureus World Sports Awards in London earlier this year and is a Friend of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. He will see how the project uses sport as a powerful tool to promote opportunities for young people and to help them develop their skills to become the leaders of tomorrow.

The project works with both male and female participants and offers young people routes into education, training and employment. It works with young people aged 13-19, tackling gang membership, crime and anti-social behaviour in some of the UK’s most deprived communities.

Participants will be offered quality learning opportunities outside school, which will lead to a rise in academic attainment and aspirations and employment.

Laureus has supported the Urban Stars programme since 2009 and is supported financially by The St James’s Place Foundation (SJP). In November 2011 SJP made a substantial three-year funding commitment to Laureus’ UK projects.

All print and broadcast media are welcome to attend the event, which will include photo, interview and TV opportunities with Stephen Donald.

When: Tuesday, April 10, 1100hrs

Where: The Park Centre, Daventry Road, Knowle, Bristol, BS4 1DQ
