The 2012 annual meeting of the Sports Journalists’ Association will be held in London on Thursday April 19 from 12.30pm.
This year, our annual meeting will return to Fleet Street, where the Association was born in a previous London Olympic year, 1948. The venue will be upstairs at Ye Olde Cock Tavern, EC4Y 1AA, opposite the Royal Courts of Justice, and within easy reach of Charing Cross, City Thameslink and Chancery Lane Tube and rail stations.
Entry to the meeting room will not begin until 12.30pm on the day. We ask members to gather in the bar downstairs until notified that the meeting room is ready (following the preceding committee meeting). A buffet lunch will be provided after the meeting, though we ask members to buy their own drinks.
The annual meeting is open to all fully paid-up members of the SJA.
Members intending to attend the annual meeting are asked to register in advance by emailing website@sportsjournalists.co.uk, with their name and membership number, writing “2012 AGM” in the subject field.
Any members who wish to propose changes to the Association’s rules and constitution need to send their proposal, together with their name, address and membership number, and the same details of their seconder, to the Hon Secretary Steven Downes by April 11.
The SJA is a volunteer-run organisation, and we are always seeking help in organising our various activities from the membership. The committee meets eight times each year, while there are also additional meetings and business to be managed. Members wishing to be put forward for election to the committee for 2012-2013 should contact the Secretary, via email website@sportsjournalists.co.uk.
The business of the annual general meeting will be to receive the committee’s annual report, the Treasurer’s annual report, and to elect the officers and committee for the coming year.
The officers hope as many members who are able to will attend the annual meeting, where drinks and a buffet lunch will be provided afterwards.
