Tickets now on sale for Sports Journalism Awards

Booking for the gala British Sports Journalism Awards dinner, being staged in central London on Monday, March 12, is now open.

Once again, membership of the SJA offers a substantial benefit, with members’ tickets priced at just £70 (plus VAT). Tickets for non-members are priced at £120 (plus VAT).

Members are also encouraged to take advantage of the special offer which allows them to buy a pair of tickets at the special SJA rate.

The SJA’s President, Sir Michael Parkinson, will again be welcoming colleagues from throughout the media to the dining room at the Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden, where after a champagne reception and three-course dinner with wine, Jim Rosenthal will be our compere on a night of some fiercely contested industry awards.

The SJA British Sports Journalism Awards seeks to recognise excellence in our business, with prizes presented on the night to the country’s top sports writers, photographers, cartoonists and broadcasters. A panel of nearly 40 judges has been assembled, including national sports editors, to choose the SJA/Laureus Sports Newspaper of the Year.

Speaking from Innsbruck, where he is attending the annual AIPS Congress this weekend as Britain’s delegate, Barry Newcombe, the SJA chairman, said, “We want to encourage as many SJA members as possible to attend, but we also want them to bring their partners, and help to really make this a night to remember.”

The SJA British Sports Awards, staged at the same venue in December, was sold out almost a month before the event, and anyone thinking of booking their ticket – or, better still, sports editors considering booking a table – are advised to act promptly to avoid disappointment.

Entries for the various categories are still open, with a closing date for all entries – writing and photography – of January 27. Click here for entry forms and conditions.
