More changes at Telegraph’s sports desk

The Telegraph Group announced more changes to its sports desk today, with promotions and a move for three regulars, although no announcement has yet been made on who will succeed David Bond as sports editor.

Cricket writer Simon Briggs, who writes a weekly blog, has been promoted to sports feature writer. According to the Telegraph announcement today, “He will have a roving brief but will take on the weekly sports books column vacated by Andrew Baker’s move to Weekend.”

Briggs has written books on cricket and football, including Stiff Upper Lips and Baggy Green Caps: A Sledger’s History of the Ashes published last year.

Nick Hoult, recruited 18 months ago as the papers’ Twenty20 cricket specialist, is promoted to deputy cricket correspondent. “He will work alongside cricket correspondent Derek Pringle with a specific responsibility for cricket news gathering. He will continue to take a lead on all T20 issues and stories,” the Telegraph said.
