The London Evening Standard has made a number of senior appointments, including on its sports desk.
James Major has been appointed head of sport for the Evening Standard.
Major, who joined the paper as sports editor at the beginning of the year, will lead the Standard’s integrated print and online sports team working closely with digital sports editor Richard Parry, who, according to a company statement, “continues to oversee strong traffic growth on standard.co.uk”.
The Standard adopted a free distribution model in 2009, providing its advertisers with a guaranteed circulation to the capital’s commuters each weekday.
The Standard now reaches almost 1 in 4 Londoners, while online its website is achieving record traffic, with monthly unique users up to 11 million, up 31 per cent year-on-year.
