MacCallum gets top job dealing with golf’s grass roots

Nelson Publishing has appointed Scott MacCallum as the editor of Turf Pro magazine.

For the past 17 years, MacCallum edited Greenkeeper International, the journal of the British International Golf Greenkeepers’ Association (BIGGA).

Prior to joining Greenkeeper International, MacCallum worked on titles such as Golf Monthly, Today’s Golfer and Championship Golf.

He was also Director of Communications for the PGA European Tour based at Wentworth and acted as press officer at major events such as the Volvo PGA Championship and the World Cup of Golf. He has been a member of the Association of Golf Writers since 1989.

MacCallum told the website: “I am delighted to be joining Turf Pro as editor. It is a publication I have long admired, and am sure that by coming together with Chris Biddle [Turf Pro’s publisher and founder] and the rest of the talented team, who have built the title over the previous 15 years, we can look forward to an exciting future.

“Although I have been immersed in golf for over 25 years, I have a deep love and knowledge of many sports including cricket, football and have been a tortured supporter of the Scottish rugby team for many years. I look forward to meeting up with the many friends I have made from within the turfcare industry during my years at BIGGA.”

Since leaving BIGGA MacCallum has also set up his own media agency, Straight Down the Middle Communications, handling writing and press work for clients, mainly in the turfcare industry.

MacCallum will also be closely involved in the 2012 Turf Pro Awards to be presented at the Pro Awards Dinner at the Macdonald Savill Court Hotel, Windsor, on September 4, when he will be joined by Mike Beardall, a former editor of The Groundsman magazine. Beardall will become part of the judging panel for the awards as well as contributing special features to Turf Pro in the coming months.
