Online now: our guide to sports journalism training

By Steven Downes
The SJA is delighted to announce the launch today of an interactive guide to training for sports journalism – with an extensive listing of journalism and sports journalism degree courses, post-grad qualifications and other, recognised part-time and full-time training courses in the UK.

Our guide is aimed at those with an ambition to become sportswriters, editors, photographers or broadcasters, and ultimately, therefore, members of the SJA.

As well as providing detailed listings of courses, with links to relevant college sites, the online guide also offers a special news section for training and courses, plus advice to the would-be sports journalist on where to seek a work experience placement, what awards are available, and major features by leading sportswriters and university lecturers with inside information on the profession.

The guide is the work of Will Tidey, an undergraduate on the sports journalism course at the University of Brighton, and the SJA’s web designer, Simon Baxter.

It will develop and grow over the coming months, but we also seek SJA members’ and student journalists’ views and input to the site. Please e-mail the site editor at Steven Downes with your comments, articles and suggestions, writing “Training and courses” in the subject field. Or post a Comment onsite in the panel below.
