The Bleacher Report has been running an “Inside the Football Media” week, kicked off with the Daily Mirror’s chief sports correspondent, Oliver Holt, talking about his life doing what many would regard as a dream job.
After university, Holt took a post-grad journalism course at Cardiff and started working at the Liverpool Echo before being hired as motor racing correspondent for The Times. He signed for the Mirror in 2002.
In the half-hour interview conducted by a fellow SJA member, Will Tidey, Holt speaks about the pressures of the job, and how he has tried to adapt his work to the modern digital publishing demands, including Twitter and other social media, as well as dealing with criticism from TalkSport’s Alan Brazil for covering women’s football.
Others being interviewed as part of the Bleacher Report series includes an interview with Gary Lineker about his transfer from the pitch to the studio, as well as a discussion with a presenter from Liverpool’s in-house television station and an interview about the demands of delivering great sports photography from pitchside with a Getty Images photographer.
