Guardian: work experience placements

Guardian News and Media (GNM) offers a limited number of short work experience opportunitiesthroughout the year to those dedicated to a career in journalism.

Placements are unpaid and range in duration from a few days to a maximum of two weeks.

To be considered for a placement you mustbe at least 18 and able to demonstrate a genuine passion for journalism– for example, serious involvement in student journalism, substantial work experience on local/specialist media, or an impressive personal website or blog. You should also not have received work experience at GNM in the previous 24 months.

The closing date for applications for this round of work experience is 31st March 2012

How to apply

To apply please complete the questions we have set out and also attach in one document the following:

1) A brief CV

2) A statement in no more than 400 words outlining why you are interested in a work placement at GNM and how you feel you will benefit from it.

3) Some examples or cuttings of journalism you have produced (this can, of course, include links to online content).

You will be asked a bit about which areas of our journalism you might be interested in (eg, sport, fashion, news, comment, media or culture etc) and when you are available to spend time with us. Please note that demand for work experience is high during academic holidays — and we give priority to students from our Scott Trust Bursary Scheme, the Positive Action programme, and winners of the Guardian Student Media Awards during these times — so it may help if you can be a little flexible with your availability.

If you are successful we will contact you to offer a placement that aims to reflect your preferred sections and dates, though this cannot be guaranteed. In some cases we may be unable to identify a placement for you right away but you will be on our shortlist for any opportunities that may arise during the period. We will aim to contact you at least two weeks before the start of the placement.
