Nationwide Annual publisher to sell 137-year-old pocket encyclopedia

In the year it first appeared the Marquess of Salisbury was Prime Minister, Queen Victoria ruled and Aston Villa beat West Bromwich Albion in an exclusively Midlands FA Cup final watched by 15,000 people at Kennington Oval.

Yes, soccer’s pocket encyclopedia really has been around that long and now it is on the market with former SJA treasurer Randall Northam looking to retire this year after 27 years running independent publishers SportsBooks Ltd.

The only book he publishes now is the Nationwide Annual – many visitors to this site may remember it better as the News of the World Annual – and he is looking for a buyer.

He and editor Stuart Barnes, will bring out the next annual in August but they would both like this to be their last. The book has an unbroken history over the last 137 years.
