Entries open for 2021 SJA British Sports Journalism Awards

Entries are now open for the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards 2021, sponsored by The National Lottery and Canon.

The SJA British Sports Journalism Awards celebrate excellence among the country’s sports writers, photographers, broadcasters and editors, whether staff or freelance, working for nationals, regionals, daily or weekly newspapers, as well as specialist sports magazines, news agencies and digital platforms.

There are more than 35 categories to enter across sports writing, broadcasting and photography, the deadline for entries is midnight on 19th January 2022.

We are pleased to announce the awards will be back as an in-person event with the gala ceremony taking place at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on Monday 7 March 2022. Tickets and tables are available to purchase now via the awards website.

There a few changes to last year’s awards;

The written categories have seen the Special Sports Edition removed from the category listing and a Live Reporting Category added. The amount of categories a single journalist can enter has been raised from two to three with sports scoop no longer counting towards the category limit for journalists who wish to enter this category as well. Additional changes include the adding of sports business to the subject list for specialist correspondents and the need for a live report removed from the football, rugby, cricket, regional and young sports journalist catgeories.

The broadcast categories have seen the introduction of Sports Podcast of the Year and YouTube Sports Show. There have been some slight changes to the length of audio and video files required for entries in certain categories so please read through the entry criteria carefully before compiling your entry.

In the photography categories the Away from the Action category has been changed to Sports News Picture, this category is judged as the best single picture that best illustrates a sports news story of 2021. As we do every four years we have added Olympic and Paralympic portfolio has been added for this year.
