The Women’s Sports Network has launched a Twitter account offering real-time news, links, reports and results from women’s sport.
The WSN has been set up to raise the profile of women’s sport and sportswomen in the wake of London 2012’s success, as well as offering coverage of England’s football and cricket teams.
And @TWING_IT means that results, match commentary, transfer news, and anything else sporty and female will be given a national platform.
Around 30 volunteer researchers and journalists will tweet – or re-tweet – in a bid to provide a stream of information about women’s sports.
The WSN already publishes a weekly schedule of women’s sport on TV at www.wsnet.co.uk.
Jo Cotgrove from WSN said: “I’m a mum and keeping up to date on events, sport and sportswomen is so hard – @TWING_IT is a use of social media technology that at last may have a positive effect on young girls and help raise the profile of some of our great sporting role models.”
