Trinity Mirror buys sports web business for £6m

Trinity Mirror has bought a web firm specialising in sport, in a deal worth a potential £6 million, just a few months after selling off its sports division, home to the Racing Post, along with various racing and sports newspapers and websites.

Trinity is paying £3.2 million up front for Rippleffect Studio, a web design and development consultancy, with a further £2.6 million to be paid if the company hits operating targets over the next three years.

Rippleffect operates several sport, leisure and retail websites in the UK, the company’s clients including football clubs Everton, Southampton, Celtic and Fulham, as well as Total Fitness magazine and corporate clients such as Littlewoods and Mercedes Benz.

Trinity hopes the acquisition will enable it to build on its existing sports operations such as publishing the match programmes of Liverpool and Everton.
