Telegraph Media Group today confirmed that Keith Perry, the Daily Telegraph‘s head of sport, is to be promoted out of that position, as exclusively reported by sportsjournalists.co.uk last month.
In a statement, it was announced that Perry’s new title is to be group managing editor, sport, adding that Perry “will be responsible for ensuring that TMG is an active partner in the most important events in the sports calendar.
“As part of this strategic role, Keith will oversee how the Daily Telegraph, the Sunday Telegraph and Telegraph.co.uk plan for the London Olympics.”
Will Lewis, the Telegraph‘s editor, said: “Keith has a wealth of experience working at Telegraph sport and is excellently placed to help us deliver first rate coverage of key sporting events across all Telegraph publications. I can’t think of a better candidate to represent the Telegraph’s continual commitment to have the best sports coverage.â€
Perry’s move comes hot on the heels of Jon Ryan leaving his job as sports editor on the Sunday Telegraph.
No replacements had been named for Ryan or Perry at the Telegraph group, where Mark Skipworth had recently been appointed as executive editor (sport) for the two titles and their website.
