Magazine publishers unveil new web plans

Leading golf and motorbike magazine titles at IPC and Emap are revamping their online presence, in what must be seen as a shift in the major publishers’ web strategies.

IPC’s Golf Monthly has launched an online video reviews service to break early equipment reviews.

Nike Golf will sponsor the Gear Vault series for the first 12 weeks of production.

“We get samples of new equipment long before it will be available to purchase and our website is the perfect tool for us to be able to share that fantastic access with thousands of golfers,” said Michael Harris, who took over as the magazine’s editor last November.

Over at Emap, changes made earlier this year to Todaysgolfer.co.uk and Motorcyclenews.com, the company claims, are part of a drive to look for new revenue generation streams, with more user-generated content.

Golfers can book tee times at a limited number of courses in a pilot scheme, and the site also plans to offer golfing holidays and online shopping as well as user-generated course and equipment reviews and video uploads.

Bike fanatics will similarly be able to contribute their news, bike and product recommendations and reviews.

Motorcyclenews.com will also embrace sales by offering a market place for bike transactions.
