SJA member Henry Winter, the Daily Telegraph‘s football correspondent, last night was recognised for his outstanding contribution to sports journalism at the 26th annual Variety Club Sporting Awards.
Other recipients at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel included Sir Tom Finney, Mick Channon, Barry McGuigan and Mike Gatting.
The Variety Club said: “Henry Winter, as stylish with his prose as he is authoritative about his specialist subject, has become required reading in the sports pages of the Daily Telegraph.
“The high degree of trust placed in him by his many contacts results in his writing being as informed as it is eloquent.”
