The SJA would like to congratulate our Sportsman of the Year, champion jump jockey AP McCoy, on being chosen by BBC viewers tonight as the 2010 Sports Personality of the Year.
McCoy is clearly a deserving winner, having already been chosen by SJA members as our 62nd Sportsman of the Year following 12 months in which he won his 15th consecutive National Hunt jockeys’ title and, finally, riding the winner of the Grand National.
In the BBC ballot of viewers, Jessica Ennis, the SJA Sportswoman of the Year, was voted into third place, behind darts champion Phil Taylor.
The BBC managed to follow the SJA’s lead also in selecting Europe’s Ryder Cup-winners as the team of the year, while their captain, Colin Montgomerie, was given the award as coach of the year.
