Wheel Appeal: Wed Oct 17

From Adrian Metcalfe
Derek Wyatt MP is inviting the sporting press to attend the launch of Wheel Appeal, a major Paralympic campaign for the 2012 Games. The launch is to be staged at Westminster on Wed, October 17.

The concept is that the British Paralympic team for 2012 should have the very best technology to deliver the medals. It is no longer enough for our paralympians to use whatever kind of wheelchair that is available. They need help to create the best possible design for their sporting requirements. And these cost around £3,000 each.

The Wheel Appeal is looking for a total of £6,000,000 to back up the coaching and development of the teams towards 2012, when the target is to deliver 2012 designer wheelchairs.

The launch, with drinks, is held at 5 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday October 17 at Portcullis House on the Victoria Embankment (right next to Westminster Tube station) in the Atlee Suite. Several members of Parliament have shown an interest plus all the UK Paralympic supporters.

It’s a big challenge but a splendid one.
