Burgess latest to join Johnson’s England team

Former sports journalist and UK Sport press officer Rob Burgess is among the latest appointments to World Cup-winner Martin Johnson’s English rugby backroom staff.

Burgess, 31, becomes the England team operations manager with immediate effect, while Mike Bundy has accepted the post of England team doctor, the RFU has announced.

Martin Johnson said: “Mike and Rob have a lot of proven experience in their respective jobs and they will be a real asset to the management team and the squad as a whole. It is vital that the medical support and the logistics of the squad run smoothly and I’m confident that Mike and Rob will both play a major role in the management team moving forward.”

Burgess will be responsible for planning and implementing all of England’s logistics, administration and travel.

He has been the rugby manager at Gloucester for three years. Previously, he worked for the London 2012 Olympic bid team after spending four years at UK Sport as a media manager. His early career had included a brief spell as a trainee at international sports federation website worldsport.com.
