UK Sport has announced two appointments to strengthen its Performance Directorate, with Simon Le Fevre joining as Head of Operations and Glenn Hunter due to take up the post of Consultant in Sports Science and Sports Medicine in the New Year.
Le Fevre started at UK Sport in September, acting as deputy to UK Sport’s Director of Performance, Liz Nicholl, on all operational matters in the directorate. Coupled with this, he is also responsible for the continuing professional development teams that provide consultancy and services to high performance sport in the fields of coaching, sports science and lifestyle management.
Previously, he worked in investment management and most recently with the United Nations Association of Great Britain and Northern Ireland as executive deputy director. Le Fevre has also assisted the Amateur Swimming Association on various projects for the past 15 years and has been an independent member of the ASA Board.
With more than 25 years’ experience in high performance sport, Glenn Hunter brings varied expertise to UK Sport and will oversee the team providing services in the field of sports science and medicine. He was an apprentice footballer before an injury led him to change career and become a chartered physiotherapist. He has provided clinical support to a wide range of elite athletes and conducted research into sports injuries, as well as running degree courses in sport science and medicine in his capacity as a principal lecturer at the University of the West of England, Bristol.
In 2003, Hunter received the Hogeschool van Utrecht Award for Sports Physiotherapy – awarded by the International Federation of Sports Physiotherapy to acknowledge and honour a practitioner whose contribution to the profession has been internationally outstanding.
“The appointments of both Simon and Glenn will further enhance our objective of working with partners to provide a world-class service for both our elite athletes and support staff,” said Nicholl. “As we move towards Beijing 2008 and London 2012, it is fantastic to strengthen our team with their unique mix of experience and expertise.”
