Nick Powell is the new Secretary of the Sports Journalists’ Association.

The respected sports editor and presenter was confirmed in the role at the SJA’s recent Annual General Meeting.
Nick retired from broadcasting in February 2025 after a distinguished 43-year career, including 29 years at Sky Sports and Sky News.
He is highly regarded for his long tenure as a main anchor on Sky Sports News, and as the on-air sports editor for Sky News.
Over his career, he won two Royal Television Society Awards and covered some of the most iconic moments in sports.
In welcoming Nick to the SJA committee, the Association’s chair Ashley Broadley said: “We’re delighted to have Nick joining us.
“He brings outstanding industry knowledge and experience, and his diligence will be invaluable as we continue to adapt and build for the future.”
In his annual Chair’s report, Broadley discusses the changes to the SJA’s British Sports Journalism Awards gala, which was held in April at the London Palladium for the first time, and the committee’s structure and governance.
Leaving the committee after the 2025/26 cycle are Jon Batham, Carrie Brown, Paul Gilham, Brian Spicer and Laura Williamson.
The SJA would like to express its gratitude to Jon, Carrie, Paul, Brian and Laura for their contributions and service to the Association.
