Elana Baltacha, the British women’s No 1, was presented with a special award for services to tennis at the annual lunch of the Lawn Tennis Writers’ Association at Wimbledon yesterday.
Baltacha had a good year, rising to a career-best world ranking of 49th in September.
She beat two top 10 players – including French Open winner Francesca Schiavone of Italy – during the year.
Baltacha was presented with the award by the chairman of the LTWA, David Luddy, the broadcaster and former London Daily News correspondent.
