Telegraph moves to Law for football news coverage

The transfer window is not yet open for the Premier League, but national sports editors Adam Sills and David Walker have already been busy with a Fleet Street version of squad rotation on the football beat.

At the Telegraph, Sills has signed up Matt Law as football news correspondent, where he is due to start on December 4. Law joins from the Sunday Mirror, where he has been chief football writer, having previously been a football reporter at the Express.

The move will strengthen the Daily Telegraph’s coverage following the move of Jason Burt to the Sunday title and the departure of sports news correspondent Paul Kelso.

Law had been at the Sunday Mirror since June last year. In his mid-30s, Law started his journalistic with the Tamworth Herald and Derby Evening Telegraph, before joining the League Paper and then the Express.

At the Sunday Mirror, Walker has moved to replace Law with Dave Kidd, the People’s deputy sports editor and columnist, who previously worked at The Sun.

Elsewhere on the Telegraph’s football team, the highly rated Mark Ogden has been promoted to become the paper’s northern football correspondent, a recognition for his work, while Jeremy Wilson has been promoted to deputy football correspondent.
