Herbert joins Mail after 18 years at Indy

Ian Herbert is joining the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday as a sports reporter.

Herbert spent 18 years on The Independent, ten of which have been spent on sport and latterly as chief sports writer as the paper has gone from print edition to online.

He will start at the Mail, the SJA’s newspaper of the year for the last four years, on Monday June 5th and write across the daily and Sunday titles as well as online.

The Liverpool-based journalist,  and former deputy editor of the Liverpool Daily Post, has carved a reputation for his investigative journalism since making the switch from news to sport in 2007 at the Indy.

He has also just published a biography of Bob Paisley, out earlier this month, to mark the 40th anniversary of the late Liverpool manager’s European Cup triumph  (Quiet Genius… Bob Paisley, British Football’s Greatest Manager, Bloomsbury Sport on May 4 at £20).

Herbert said: “It is huge privilege to join a sports operation which is so committed to quality journalism. For very good reason the Daily Mail has been sports paper of the year for four years running and it’s a wonderful opportunity to be a part of that team.”
