David Rayvern Allen, the cricket writer and BBC broadcaster, died last week after a battle with cancer. He was 76.
Rayvern Allen was a prolific author, writing, compiling, editing and contributing to 43 books, the vast majority of which were about cricket.
He was particularly noted for his work as the biographer of John Arlott, the BBC commentator and Guardian correspondent; he also wrote the biography of Telegraph cricket writer Jim Swanton.
He also worked as a member of MCC’s Arts and Library committee in two spells from 1999.
He is survived by daughters Lindsey and Briony, who both work in theatre.
