Myers’ 40 Olympic years are honoured

Lord Coe, chairman of London 2012’s organising committee and LOCOG Director of Communications, Jackie Brock-Doyle, stopped off at a surprise party in Athens last week to mark Morley Myers’ 40th anniversary of his association with Olympic Games.

Morley, a former international sports editor of United Press International, covered his first Olympics in Grenoble in 1968 and his first Summer Games in Mexico that year. He has been freelancing for agencies including SID for the last 10 years.

Alain Luzenficher, President of the Olympic Writers’ Association, recalled some of the times he and Morley had spent together at various Games’ venues and Adrian Warner, OWA Secretary General read a message of congratulations from IOC Hon President Juan Antonio Samaranch.

Greg Harney represented the LA Games of 1984 and Charlie Battle was at the party on behalf of Atlanta 1996. Journalists from the Americas, Asia and Europe attended the party at a restaurant near the Divani Caravel hotel.
