AP’s Wilson to miss 2016 Olympic vote

A bout of appendicitis last week saw the Associated Press’s Steve Wilson have to undergo surgery. The operation, which was a success, means that AP’s London-based Olympics specialist will not be in Copenhagen on Friday to report on the IOC vote to decide the host city for the 2016 Summer Games.

The contest is between Madrid, Rio, Chicago and Tokyo, and US President Barack Obama will deliver a brief speech to endorse the American candidate.

Wilson has not missed a host city vote for 18 years, going back to 1991 when Nagano won the rights to stage the 1998 Winter Olympics. Wilson hopes to be fully fit to resume work very soon.
