The National Lottery backs SJA Sports Awards

National LotteryTHE NATIONAL LOTTERY SIGNS FOUR-YEAR SPONSORSHIP
FOR THE SJA BRITISH SPORTS AWARDS

The Sports Journalists’ Association of Great Britain (SJA) is delighted to announce that The National Lottery will be the headline sponsor of their annual SJA British Sports Awards for the next four years.

The deal marks an extension of the partnership that began last December when the awards celebrated the stunning achievements witnessed at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. With a host of National Lottery-funded achievements to celebrate in 2013 and many more to look forward to on the road to Rio 2016, the SJA British Sports Awards will continue as a fantastic annual celebration of British national sporting success when they return to the Tower of London on Thursday, December 12.

“The SJA is absolutely thrilled to be extending this partnership with The National Lottery, who play such a crucial role in British sport,” said Sir Michael Parkinson, the SJA President.

“The year 2012 was always going to be tough to match but we have witnessed some amazing successes in 2013. SJA members have been at the forefront of covering these special sporting moments; from the Ashes cricket, the Lions rugby tour and Wimbledon tennis successes to the medals our Olympic and Paralympic heroes have won in World and European championships of sports such as cycling, athletics, aquatics, rowing and equestrianism.

“We are delighted to have the support of The National Lottery as we acknowledge these incredible athletes for their achievements and together we look forward to hosting another enjoyable event on December 12.”

Andy Duncan, Managing Director of Camelot UK Lotteries Limited, said: “Over the next four years, The National Lottery is on track to contribute an estimated record £86 million a year to support 52 sports and over 1,300 potential Team GB and ParalympicsGB athletes through UK Sport as they prepare for the Sochi Winter Games next year, Rio 2016 and beyond.

“We are proud to partner with the SJA British Sports Awards over this period – and to no doubt celebrating the achievements of many National Lottery-funded athletes and sports along the way.”

The sponsorship agreement was brokered by sports marketing agency RedTorch.
