For those asking, and apparently there has been one, SJA member, sometime Racing Post columnist and Radio Leeds “DJ” Martin Kelner is recovering after a second bout of surgery. Friends and colleagues will know that Kelner had a tumour removed last year, which has been variously reported to have been the size of a grapefruit or a melon (though not, as the patient was no doubt relieved to discover, the size of Wales).
The first in what is due to be a regular Saturday Kelner column in the Racing Post will appear tomorrow – he has already written it, the Post’s editors will be glad to hear. But in the meantime, Kelner has explained his current disposition thusly:
“Medical advice is not to go anywhere ‘your carpet slippers won’t take you,’ although as I point out in my Racing Post column, living in Wakefield that more or less takes in the whole town, and any occasion short of a formal Masonic dinner.”
For more where that came from, check out Kelner’s latest blog.
Everyone at the SJA wishes Kelner a speedy recovery, and we have extended to him a personal invitation to join us all at York Races for the SJA Race Day on May 15. And we won’t mind if he turns us in the carpet slippers.
