Bath pulls plug on sports editor job

Richard Bath is standing down as sports editor at Scotland on Sunday, after six years in charge.

Les Snowdon, the Edinburgh-based newspaper’s Editor, is expected to post an advertisement for Bath’s replacement shortly.

Bath is to remain on the Johnston Press-owned paper’s staff, doing more writing from his home in Ayrshire. Plans at the moment are that Bath will continue to edit the sports pages until a successor is appointed.

In an e-mail to contributors and colleagues, Bath said: “It’ll be a wrench leaving one of the best jobs in sports journalism, but after six years in the hotseat I felt that I needed a new challenge.

“Les Snowdon, kindly went out of his way to accommodate that wish, and has my thanks for that.”

Before moving to Scotland on Sunday, Bath had worked as deputy sports editor at the launch of rival title Sunday Herald, where he won Scottish Sportswriter of the Year. He had also edited magazines such as Inside Sport and Rugby News, as well as writing widely on a range of sports.

He will continue to be contactable on the same e-mail address: rbath@scotlandonsunday.com.
