SJA members can Play The Game at 60% off

The SJA has negotiated a discount of up to 60 per cent on the cost of attending the world’s foremost conference on sport, morality and journalism, being staged in Coventry next month.

Play The Game is a world-renowned, not-for-profit institution that has been examining the ethics of sport for more than a decade. It is based in Denmark and has received backing from sports bodies including the Danish Ministry of Culture and national Olympic committee.

Every other year, it stages a global conference at which major issues in sport are discussed by leading administrators, players and journalists. This year’s Play The Game conference is being staged in Britain for the first time, at the University of Coventry from June 8 to 12.

The five-day delegate fee would usually cost £650, but SJA members wishing to attend may book for just £500. To attend any single day of the conference would normally cost £250, but the SJA has negotiated a special rate exclusive to its members of just £100.

Among the speakers already confirmed for this year’s conference are Aidan White, the general secretary of the International Federation of Journalists; Alessandro Donati, anti-doping expert and former head of research the Italian Olympic committee; Andrew Jennings, BBC Panorama‘s football investigator; Dave Boyle, chief executive of Supporters Direct; David Howman, director general of WADA; Declan Hill, author The Fix; Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, CEO of European Professional Football Leagues; Mark Davies, managing director, Betfair; Dick Pound QC, former IOC vice president and head of WADA; William Gaillard, UEFA director of communications; and Wladimir Andreff, professor emeritus in sports economy, University of Paris-Sorbonne.

Play the Game conferences are also considered a unique opportunity to network and get story ideas. For more on the 2009 Play The Game conference, click here.
