James Mulligan has been appointed as the communications manager for the Lausanne-based European Athletics Association.
Mulligan’s first major set-piece event will be the European Cup in Leiria, Portugal, on June 20-21, which will be staged under a revised format, pooling both men’s and women’s performances in an international team championship which Mulligan says, “promise to signal the start of something exciting for track and field, with the introduction of a number of ground-breaking initiatives”.
Mulligan says: “European Athletics’ aim has been to adapt the regulations to make sure athletics maintains its appeal without affecting the sport’s purity.” Mulligan says that the EAA will review this year’s event and take on board views from a wide constituency, including the press.
“Over the next couple of weeks, we will be publishing on our website a number of articles featuring athletes expected to compete in Leiria, aiming to illustrate how these athletes will deal with the changes,” Mulligan says.
