From Vikki Orvice, athletics correspondent, The Sun
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who supported me for the 5km walk I did with Paula Radcliffe in Battersea Park in May to launch the Race for Life event.
We walked the distance – she was still recovering from an operation on her toe and could not run – and I helped her to a personal worst of 55 minutes over the distance, admittedly timed on a hand-held device.
We passed the 1km mark at around 16 minutes – slower than her PB for the whole distance – and at one point were overtaken by a lady pushing her wheelchair. London 2012 chairman Seb Coe turned up to cheer us on. Or maybe he was scouting for race-walkers in three years’ time?
Thanks to everyone’s generosity, I am on course to raise around £6,000 for Cancer Research UK.
