SJA’s Bonsu and Wimbledon’s Willis named in Leaders class of 2019

SJA committee member Benny Bonsu and Wimbledon head of innovation and communication Alex Willis have been named in the prestigious Leaders class of 2019.

They have been selected for their ‘leadership and exceptional contribution to moving the sport industry forward’ and will be honoured at the Leaders Sports Awards in October.

Benny (left) is head of women’s sports at GiveMeSport, one of the world’s biggest digital sports sites. She is also an award-winning sports broadcaster and writer with a special interest in basketball.

She has worked for the BBC World Service, Sky Sports, MTG Africa, BT Sport, and Matchroom Sport. In 2015 she created the Girls in Sports Foundation to provide opportunities for women and girls to access sport.

Alex (right) leads Wimbledon’s external facing communications, fan marketing and innovation, helping to transform the perception of the brand.

She has recently been appointed as a Trustee of Greenhouse Sports, a charity working to develop young people in marginalised areas of London through the power of sport

There were 450 entries from 31 different countries, judged over the last nine months. These were whittled down to 30 individuals from 10 different countries. The judging panel was made up of more than 100 industry executives.

The Leaders Sports Awards will be held at the Natural History Museum on October 9 following the conclusion of the two-day Leaders sport business summit.
