Guardian rings the changes on sport

Guardian sports editor Ben Clissit has been ringing the changes with his staff at the start of the football season, with four “new signings”.

It was announced on Friday that Stuart James had been hired to cover Midlands football, while Andy Hunter moves from The Independent this week to take on the Merseyside beat and Dave Hytner, previously of the Express, will be based in London.

Following the departure of Michael Walker to go freelance, Louise Taylor has also joined the Guardian for north-east covervage.

Other changes see Dominic Fifield moving to London from the north-west, while sports news reporter Andrew Culf is leaving the desk to become acting head of news on the Guardian Unlimited website.
