Matt Slater has been appointed by Press Association Sport as its new chief sports reporter.
SJA member Slater has worked as a sports news correspondent at the BBC for more than a decade, initially on its website but more recently to be heard on radio and seen on television news coverage.
Slater replaces Martyn Ziegler, who left last month to join The Times as its sports news correspondent.
Slater’s work has seen him twice been shortlisted for SJA internet sportswriting awards, winning the title in 2007.
Slater began his career in newspapers, but since joining the BBC he has become known for his sports news coverage, especially in the areas of cycling and doping. Today, for instance, he has been covering the latest news from the IAAF on the Russian doping scandal.
