Join us for SJA’s VIP race day at York on May 11

Come along and meet up with other SJA members at York Races for a bargain day out at one of the Association’s most enjoyed social occasions of the year

York RacesThe Sports Journalists’ Association, thanks to our generous sponsors Ladbrokes, is holding its annual race day at York on Wednesday, May 11, the first day of one of the highlight meetings of the flat season.

The day’s feature race is the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes, an important Classic trial, which in 2015 was won by Frankie Dettori on John Gosden’s Star of Seville.

This will be the SJA’s third visit to York Races, providing an exclusive offer for our members with our tickets costing just £25 – less than the price of entry to the course. We are keen to encourage members from across the country to attend, and to bring a guest – members are allowed to buy two tickets at our top-value price.

At York, members and their guests will have a terrific day out in an exclusive box overlooking the finish line, together with lunch and half a bottle of wine. And if we’re lucky, there may also be a special guest or two to come along and mark your racecard for some of the best chances of the day. But we can’t guarantee any winners.

Places are strictly limited, so please make sure you book yours as soon as possible. Write, with a cheque made out to the SJA, please to Randall Northam at 9 St Aubyns Place, York, YO24 1EQ. Please state if you want a car park pass as well.

  • Lamb and LionFor those travelling to the races from further afield, the SJA has also arranged a 10 per cent discount on room rates at the Lamb and Lion, a terrifically hospitable pub B&B, which is built next to Bootham Bar, one of the entrance points in the city walls of historic York. You could book to stay over on the Wednesday night, and continue the conviviality with friends and colleagues into the evening over dinner. For more details and to make a booking, click here.
