Job: The Cricketer wants trainee digital journalist

The Cricketer is looking for a trainee digital journalist.

The successful candidate will have an outstanding knowledge of cricket. He or she will assist the social media editor across our various channels, and have an opportunity to contribute video and audio. 

The position will also involve some commercial work, in particular supporting digital clients and assisting with the running of events and significant projects such as the National Village Cup and Kia Summer Smash.

The role will suit a graduate journalist on the lookout for his or her first or second step on the sports reporting ladder during perhaps the most exciting summer English cricket has ever witnessed.

Candidates must be able to source and write stories, be knowledgeable in SEO and the use of keywords,  have a strong understanding of social media channels – especially but not limited to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram – and be able to exhibit creativity in those areas. A working knowledge of web and social media analytics would be advantageous, as would an understanding of HTML or equivalent.

An NCTJ qualification – or imminent NCTJ qualification –  is desirable but not essential, depending on the candidate.

The role will suit a graduate journalist on the lookout for his or her first or second step on the sports reporting ladder during perhaps the most exciting summer English cricket has ever witnessed. Applicants must have an existing right to work in the United Kingdom.

This is a full-time position based in south London, not far from The Oval, starting as soon as possible. This role will require some weekend and overnight work.

Salary: Circa £20,000-£24,000
