Young Reporter opportunity at Euro U21 Championships this summer

UPDATE: The deadline to apply for this opportunity has now passed. The successful candidate will be notified within the next seven days. Many thanks to all those who applied and apologies that we could not reply to emails on an individual basis.

An opportunity to report at the men’s UEFA U-21 European Championship in Italy and San Marino is available for an English sports journalist on the next Young Reporter scheme being organised by AIPS in June.

The international sports press association has been running event on-site courses for the past eight years in a multiplicity of sports and venues.

In 2017, the SJA chose Maryanne Orr and Katie Mishner as Young Reporters at the women’s Euros – they are pictured above with the AIPS ‘team’.

Next on the agenda is the two-week championship in the summer which will feature some of the finest young players in Europe – including England – and which AIPS is holding in cooperation with the European football federation between June 14 and July 1.

AIPS is bringing together up to 18 young reporters from the participating nations and other continents. Hence the search for a YR candidate from England who should be between the ages of 18 and 28 and preferably already employed in local media.

For the duration of the programme, the Young Reporters will be guided on how to cover the tournament including their own national team and rivals.

In addition to reporting on the football they will be provided with daily training and lessons on the practice of sports journalism and assignments by a group of experienced AIPS mentors, in written and digital journalism, video photography and social media.

Their work during the programme will be published in English on www.aipsmedia.com, on AIPS social media. Young Reporters are also encouraged to send news back from the Games to their own media in their own language.

AIPS will cover the cost of a return flight from the Young Reporter’s home city to Italy along with all accommodation including full board and local transportation. The Young Reporter is responsibility only for his or her own international travel insurance.

Interested candidates should send a CV and short motivation letter to info@sportsjournalists.co.uk
