The SJA British Sports Awards 2022

We are delighted to announce that The SJA, in association with the National Lottery, is once again gathering to celebrate the successes and achievements of the British sporting year.

The awards which were first held in 1949 will honour the Sportsman, Sportswoman and Sports Team of the year as well as the many other sporting achievements of 2022.

The awards lunch will take place at The Brewery in Central London on Thursday 8 December with tickets for individuals, groups and tables available to purchase now through the awards website: www.TheBritishSportsAwards.co.uk.

The event starts at 1200 with a welcome reception, followed by lunch and the Awards hosted by Jim Rosenthal, the awards are expected to finish at 1600. You do not have to be an SJA member to attend although members are entitled to a significant discount on tickets.

The awards are a great opportunity to reflect and celebrate what has already been an outstanding sporting year with leading figures in sports journalism, media, and sport.

Last year teenage sensation Raducanu was voted Sportswoman of the Year, Tokyo 2020 breaststroke champion Adam Peaty became sportsman of the year for the first time and the England men’s football team, who came so close to bringing it home at the European Championships were voted team of the year.

This year there are already some clear contenders with some special performances, the members vote for sportsman, sportswoman and sports team will open in a few weeks, all members will be contacted and asked to cast their votes online.

The SJA sportsman, sportswoman and sports team of the year is voted for by SJA members. Other award winners at the event are selected by the SJA Committee such as The Pat Besford Award for outstanding performance of the year, The National Lottery Spirit of Sport Award, The SJA Bill McGowran Trophy for female and male para athletes, the J L Manning Award for services to sport off the field and the SJA Sport for Social Change Award.

We are pleased this year again to partner with Sky and Kick It Out to award the Sky | Kick It Out award for equality and inclusion. The award was first given last year and recognises an individual or organisation within sport that has led the fight against racism and discrimination while promoting equality and inclusion in sport and wider society.
