Kelly Cates and Miles Addy among a number of shortlistees who will defend their titles at the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards; 19 Broadcast section category shortlists revealed ahead of the Awards gala at the London Palladium on April 27…

BBC Match of the Day trio Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan all return to the shortlist for the Presenter category at the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards.

Cates claimed the trophy last year, and like her colleague and three-time previous winner Chapman, she will represent both BBC Sport and Sky Sports in the chase for one of the night’s most coveted prizes.
The Presenter shortlist is one of 19 in the Broadcast section, revealed ahead of the Awards gala night to be held at the London Palladium on Monday, April 27, 2026, sponsored by Canon UK.

Logan’s presence on the list keeps the MOTD line-up intact, while Simon Thomas is another name from the Sky Sports stable to reach the final stage. ITV Sport duo Ed Chamberlin and Mark Pougatch, both of whom have won this award in 2018 and 2011 respectively, complete a highly competitive category.
Broadcast Journalist is another of the accolades on offer to individuals, and Dan Roan (BBC) and Steve Scott (ITV) are in the mix again.
Roan took the trophy home in 2021, one year after Scott’s success, but they face a heated battle for honours with Sky duo Rob Harris and Patrick Davison, plus freelancers Alex Aljoe and Sirayah Shiraz, all chasing glory.
Elsewhere in the Broadcast section, a change from last year is the introduction of a second Podcast category – entries can now be made in either ‘Always On’ or Limited Series.
Once again, the BBC and talkSPORT have plenty of opportunities to pick up Audio silverware, but in Documentary at least, there is a chance for The Athletic to claim a third win in four years.
John Murray and Peter Drury have previously been crowned Commentator of the Year, and they are joined in the category on this occasion by five more who displayed mastery of the mic in 2025.
Freelance broadcasters Alison Mitchell and Conor McNamara; TNT Sports’ Premier League commentator Darren Fletcher; and ITV duo Sam Matterface (also representing talkSPORT) and Seb Hutchinson make it a magnificent seven in total.

Last year’s SJA Awards saw the introduction of several new Content Creator and YouTube categories.
All of those categories return to the running order, and Miles Addy, Jordan Macauley and Charlotte Daly will be looking to land trophies on Awards night in consecutive years.
A dynamic dozen are shortlisted across the two Ones to Watch rosters of ‘On Air’ and ‘Off Air’, while SJA members will once again be called upon to choose the Pundit of the Year. The last three winners – Roy Keane, Ian Wright and Ally McCoist – feature among 10 contenders, with Olympic gold medalist Ruby Tui a newcomer after her Women’s Rugby World Cup contributions.
Finally, there is plenty of variety in the three TV categories – Live Event, Show and Documentary. In the latter, Noah Media Group have won three times in the past, while the BBC – winners in 2022 – have a triple shot this time around.
The winners of the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards will be announced at a gala ceremony, taking place at the London Palladium on Monday, April 27, 2026.
