Take part in European summer school

From Morley Myers, General Secretary, UEPS
Michel Platini, the newly-elected president of Uefa, has been invited to attend the first UEPS Summer School for journalists at Ancient Olympia on May 24, the day after the European Cup final in Athens.

The former French World Cup star is set to join a number of sporting celebrities who will participate in the eight-day programme which is designed to deliver stories as well as lectures.

Each of the 47 UEPS national association members, including the SJA in Britain, has been invited to send up to three journalists.

The date of the summer school has been chosen to maximise the presence of a large number of football journalists who will be in Athens for the showpiece final.

But the seminar will be multi-focused and not just about football. Speakers will include personalities from other sports in addition to high-ranking Uefa officials.

The School is targeted at journalists under the age of 45, although older members can also participate.

The cost for the whole eight days is only 300 euro per person and includes seminars, room and board at the Olympic Academy, internal transportation, excursions and a sports and culture programme.

The May 24 opening ceremony will be in Athens where participants will stay at a five-star hotel before going to Olympia the following day.

The deadline for registering participants is March 16.
