Roger Federer, the Swiss tennis star, and Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva have been voted the world’s top sports performers in 2006 by AIPS, the International Sports Press Association.
Best Team of the Year award went to Italy’s World Cup-winning team.
The vote for the Best Press Facilities of 2006 went to the World Cup in Germany, followed by the Winter Olympic Games and Wimbledon. The facilities at Arsenal’s new Emirates Stadium, opened in August, saw the London ground rate in the top five.
