SJA British Sports Journalism Awards 2021: broadcast shortlist

The SJA is delighted to add two new categories to the British Sports Journalism broadcast awards in recognition of the growing numbers who subscribe to podcasts or who watch their sport on YouTube.

Contenders for the podcast are The Athletic, who also figure in the writing awards (The Totally Football Show),  talkSPORT (After the lights go out),  Sky Sports News (Football’s Cult Heroes), Rob Harris (Sport Unlocked), BBC Sports News (The  Sports Desk)  and ITV Sport (Racing Podcast).

The YouTube contenders are: The Overlap (Buzz 16), What I Wore (BT Sport), Saturday Social (Sky Sports), Vibe with five (New Era Ingenious) White and Jordan (talkSPORT), Watch Along (AFTV).

The winners will be announced at a gala ceremony, sponsored by The National Lottery,  at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge on Monday 7 March 2022. Presenter of the year Laura Woods has an opportunity to repeat her feat of last year.

talkSPORT’s Woods has made the shortlist again in a category which also includes Caroline Barker (Sky Sports and BBC), Hazel Irvine (BBC Sport), Orla Chennaoui (freelance),  Ade Adepitan (Whisper for Channel 4),  Dave Jones (Sky Sports), Gary Lineker (BBC) and Mark Chapman (BBC 5Live).

Broadcast Journalist of the Year is a coveted prize and within the grasp of six TV heavyweights including BBC sports editor Dan Roan, who is up against  Antoine Allen from ITV News, Des Kelly of BT Sport, CNN’s Amanda Davies, Gabriel Clarke (ITV Sport) and Craig Slater of Sky Sports News.

The winners of the ‘Ones to Watch’ categories will be revealed on the SJA website on February 28 and will be invited to attend the awards.
