Four years after London was named as host city for the 2012 Games, Sky News has appointed Orla Chennaoui as its Olympics correspondent.
The appointment is to commence on Monday, July 27 – three years to the day before the Olympic flame will be lit in the stadium at Stratford.
Chennaoui – who recently joined the SJA – worked at Meridian in Southampton and on Scotland Today before joining Sky News as Northern Ireland correspondent in 2006, moving to the London office in 2007.
Chennaoui said: “I’m really excited to be taking on the dedicated role of Olympics correspondent. It’s a fantastic opportunity to report from around the UK and beyond on the preparation of our sports stars and chart their battle for medals. I will also be closely monitoring the political and structural preparations around the site itself.”
Sky News executive editor Chris Birkett said: “Orla’s appointment puts us in the position to give unrivalled breaking news coverage of the Olympic on television and online.
“She’ll tackle the big topics of economics, politics, security and drugs that surround the games — but she’ll also be uncovering human stories of endeavour and achievement as athletes prepare for the biggest event to hit Britain for more than 60 years.”
She can be contacted at +44 (0)20 7705 3000 and orla.chennaoui@bskyb.com
